Aleene's Original Tacky Glue

Nothing is tackier than Aleene’s Tacky Glue. And that’s ok.

All Hail the Crafty Queens

We should all aspire toward crafty queen infamy.

In the drag community, queens that repurpose items for their looks are labeled “crafty queens.” Instead of applauding the resourcefulness, the community shuns them for not shelling out thousands for traditional materials.

The Vixen, a viral queen and fan favorite from RuPaul’s Drag Race, wears this crafty queen title with pride. Her looks have featured caution tape, traffic cones, even bike streamers.

Aleene’s will create a series of webisodes, titled “Tacky Tutorials” in which The Vixen will walk viewers through making various iconic looks using Aleene’s Tacky Glue.

May the Tackiest Outfit Win.

Aleene’s will encourage people to make their prom dresses out of Tacky Glue and craft materials. Participants can enter by posting their creations under the hashtag #KeepinitTacky.

AD/CW: Me

Fun Facts:

  • It took 1000 popsicle sticks, 750 pompoms, 14 spools of yarn, 500 craft feathers, 300 googly eyes, 75 tissue paper flowers, 100 pipe cleaners, 25 felt flowers, and an ungodly amount of glue to make these looks.

  • It was flooding when we had the shoot. RIP the tissue paper.

  • We missed the studio reservation—due to the aforementioned flooding—so we scouted around campus for a plain wall. I ended up pseudo-breaking into the art building.

  • Ferrets poop when they’re nervous.

  • The ferrets were very nervous.

  • I still find googly eyes on my rug from time to time.

Honorary Fun Fact that really didn’t age well:

Ami Plasse did a live drawing of the event, which included this snippet of me pitching a tackier world to Stan Richards, of UT’s advertising school, The Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations.

The drawing is hung in the media building, forever immortalizing my presence within the halls of the University of Texas, and more specifically, UT’s advertising school, The Stan Richards School of Advertising and Public Relations.

Hook ‘em.
