Chalked Up
Origin story:
Moving back in with my parents at 23 wasn’t even the worst part about 2020. Around week three of the lockdown, the neighboring children lost their damn minds. Every tricycle group torpedoing around the block might as well have been a biker gang. It was like a kiddy The Shining.
I started doing chalk murals on my driveway to keep these stir-crazy tiny people entertained. Soon there was a steady stream of cars and people outside my house, including the passive aggressive Clarice Tinsley of Fox 4 News. (Screw you, Clarice.) This little project quickly evolved into a multi-city operation where I’d sneak out past bedtimes and make driveway murals for kids to wake up to like a jobless, quarantine Santa. Now I do it for brands sometimes, so hit me up.

Clarice’s mean girl energy is palpable here.
I have joined the ranks of people who have been besmirched by Fox, something that has been on my bucket list for quite some time.
My brother collects turtles. Not of his own accord, but because he once told my parents, “I like turtles.”
Since this egregious error, my parents have gotten him turtles for every gift-giving holiday, even non-gift giving ones. He doesn’t have the heart to tell them “not that much," and now it’s too late.
They do this for me with Abby Cadabby from Sesame Street.
While working on this one, my neighbor asked me what I did for fun. I gestured to this and she said thoughtfully, “Ah… no friends.”
And that’s how I was guilted into agreeing to a blind date with her son.
Doing chalk art during a wind advisory is like doing chalk art normally, but every two minutes someone punches you in the face and throws all your chalk into a nearby creek.
Happy birthday, kiddo. I hope this was worth my scratched retinas.
