Expect Better From Weather
Weathermen are liars.
In fact, when the local weatherman says there’s a 100% chance of rain, he or she is right less than 60% of the time. Dark Sky Weather is ranked the most accurate weather source to date. The app is able to provide down to the minute forecasts by zip code.

Bus Shelter Weatherman
Imagine it’s raining. You head to a nearby bus stop for shelter. Zoning out, your empty eyes wander to a nearby billboard, and the person on it looks… familiar?
Select bus stops with green screens will transform into hyperlocal weather stations. Unsuspecting bystanders will be broadcast onto an LED billboard nearby with Dark Sky’s next hour forecast for that specific bus stop.
A Window into the Immediate Future
No, this won’t tell you when the sun will explode, so don’t cut ties with your local clairvoyant just yet. However, these “transparent” AR sidewalk billboards can cue you in on your particular block’s hourly weather according to the Dark Sky forecast.
The Obnoxiously Specific Geolocated Snapchat Filter
Humans can finally make use of the weather small talking ability that we all seem to innately have.
Using Snapchat’s location tracking and AR, Dark Sky will roll out localized weather forecast filters unique to each user’s unnecessarily exact location.
Finally, we can watch Jillian gloat about the weather around her apartment by Pepperdine University, and judge for ourselves if it’s “like, so perfect you guys.”
Fun Facts:
The Bus Shelter Weatherman idea was inspired by a lovely 2009 trip to the Newseum. Kids got to wait in line for an hour and a half for a two minute stint as a newscaster, complete with a green screen, a teleprompter—the whole shebang.
When it was my turn, I had a stage-fright meltdown and my family had to join me. I’m the sweaty one on the left.
